5 Stylish and Functional Bathroom Upgrades

Bathroom remodels are on the rise, because after a long day, nothing relaxes you like a shower or bath in a beautiful bathroom. Not only are there gorgeous finishes for countertops, sinks and floors, a sometimes overlooked part of the bathroom is seeing an uptick in fine finishes: the common shower. Showers can provide a large patch of real estate in a bathroom to showcase things like tile, fixtures, and other features. And who doesn’t like taking a shower in luxury? Here are five features we love that you should consider the next time you remodel your bathroom!

Ceiling Track Shower Curtains

Shower curtains can still be both convenient and stylish in your bathroom. When hung from a ceiling track, you can add style to your curtain in a very affordable way. A curved track mounted to a ceiling gives a fresh finish while simplifying the space: you can easily clean and replace the shower curtain if needed. A track eliminates the need for a rod running across the space, which gives a sleek design and can help to make smaller spaces seem bigger and more open. Bonus: even closed, the ceiling track makes the shower curtain look stylish, and this look works well in both traditional and contemporary spaces!

Frameless Shower Doors

A frameless glass shower door can fit into most bathroom layouts, and gives a great, clean look. It’s a good option for people who are looking for a simplified, uncluttered look. While showers without doors are becoming more popular, this could be a good option if you want to contain the heat of the steam in your shower, but you still are looking for a more open look in your bathroom. Frameless shower doors are also a great option for shower-tub combos. Often in remodeled bathrooms, the tile is typically the star of the shower, and using a frameless door allows more transparency and lets the tile shine. A lot of people don’t want to spend money on tile just to cover it up! Bonus: frameless shower doors make cleaning a breeze. There’s very little hardware involved, so less of cleaning around it!

Matte Black Fixtures

When it comes to selecting shower fixtures, designers are saying that matte black finishes deserve a consideration. Why? Matte black fixtures are durable and striking. The finish shows fewer fingerprints and wear over time. Since it’s a neutral color, it can also be incorporated into many different styles. The only challenge? Finding your desired style of fixture in this finish. Currently, matte black is only used in limited collections. As it grows in popularity, we will hopefully see this change! To round out your look and give a cohesive finish to your bathroom, consider also doing the shower door handle, hinges, and towel holders in matte black to match any other matte black fixtures you decide on.

Shower Niches

Shower niches are becoming a trend that people look for in bathrooms. They’re an easy built-in way to store things like shampoo and soap without having to have a caddy on the floor. Niches are functional and convenient, and hard to go without once you experience it. On top of that, you can really have fun with them to give your space personality. They’re aesthetically pleasing, and you can incorporate accent niches to really make that shower pop.

Large-Format Tiles

Selecting tile for your shower can feel overwhelming. There’s a wide range of styles, patterns and colors to choose from. On top of that, you can choose from different sizes, and now the trend that we're seeing is that bigger is better. Called “large-format tiles,” designers say they are more visually appealing and the most popular look out there right now. There are fewer grout lines, which gives more focus to the tile, and they’re a great choice to make smaller rooms appear larger because they have less visual distraction. New technology also allows images and patterns to be printed directly onto tile, which is another reason the demand for large-format tiles has grown.

While bathroom renovation and trends are constantly growing and evolving, these are five trends we’re seeing currently that are all visually pleasing and, in our opinion, have the chance of sticking around for a while. One of the best things about remodeling your home is that you can add your character and personal tastes, and with so many options and finishes available, the possibilities are endless.
