Smart Laundry Room Features Every Home Should Have

When we design custom homes, one of our favorites parts is seeing the unique features our clients want in their homes and how they evolve over the years. The laundry room is a great example of a space that has evolved in the last few years - it’s gone from a closet to a full-blown room in the house! Today, laundry rooms are set up to be efficient, make life easier, and also have great design elements to them. Here are a few of our favorite features that our clients have utilized in their custom homes over the years!

Custom cabinetry

Beautiful custom cabinets can make your laundry room just that - beautiful. On top of that, they really help to maximize storage. Laundry supplies and other belongings can be stored out of sight. You also can opt for open shelving in all or part of your laundry room for tidy storage and even decorations. As with all cabinetry, the sky’s the limit in configurations, accessories, and wood finishes.

Adequate Counter Space

Laundry chores generally become a little easier with an adequate amount of counter space at your disposal. Whether it’s having a surface to set down the laundry supplies you’re using or for sorting and folding clothes right out of the dryer, extra counter space can come in very handy. You can also put any type of countertop that you can put into your kitchen and bathroom into the laundry room - making granite, quartz and more awesome options!

Pull-outs and Accessories

Good laundry room ideas should make your laundry experience more efficient and helpful. Pull-out racks and drawers in a laundry room save space and have many uses. You can use them to make supplies easier to find. A pull-out drying rack, for example, provides an extra storage option for drying clothes, as do adjustable valet rods and hanging rods. Another fun feature is a pull-out ironing board. They conveniently only take up laundry room space when they’re needed! And finally, one of our favorite accessories: built-in laundry hampers. These hampers are incorporated into your custom cabinetry to maximize space and keep dirty clothes organized.

Good Lighting

Improving the lighting in your laundry room doesn’t cost much and can make a world of difference. Laundry rooms commonly lack decent lighting, which can make a joyless task like doing laundry feel even more tedious. Good news: you can change the atmosphere by adding ambient or accent lighting! Under-cabinet lighting is also a great option for more frequently used areas of the laundry room.

Great Flooring

The floor of a room is one of the first things you notice when you enter, and so when creating a laundry room with a good vibe, you can’t ignore the floor.  Since laundry room floors are prone to moisture, ceramic tile or vinyl flooring are good options, and there are a wide variety of beautiful floors and designs out there to fit anyone’s vision!

A Nice Laundry Sink

How many times have you been doing laundry when you needed water to treat a stain or wash something out? When building a custom laundry room, one of the best features you can include for ease is a laundry room sink. A deep, stainless steel sink, complemented with a stylish faucet, is a beautiful option that also resists staining!
